For all those who could not make it to the meeting, here’s a recap:
Our dues were set at $10 to help cover some of our club activities we will be having in the near future. These were to be paid to Lauren Bethel at this meeting if you wanted to stay in the club and on the mailing list. Please contact her at [email protected] if you could not make it to the meeting and need to make other arrangements for paying.
There was an e-mail sent out of the t-shirt we are getting and it is also on the website for those of you who did not see it. They will be $10 each and the money needs to be turned in to Lauren Bethel by November 22, which is before Thanksgiving break. The order is already in for those of you who gave Fran a shirt size.
Fran Bergkoetter (President) spoke on visiting Skyview Animal Clinic. This is where she works at; and we have scheduled the tour of the clinic for December 1. We would be leaving towers circle at 4:15pm and would be done at 5:30pm. We will send out directions for those of you who would be driving there or we will be carpooling from towers for anyone who would need a ride.
Josh LaMaster spoke on the progress of getting a trip lined out to visit the National Tiger Sanctuary. He sent them an email, and they have not replied yet and he will be making a call in the next week if he does not hear anything back from them. He is going to keep us posted on what he finds out and we will put any developments on the events calendar and send out an email.
Alex re-informed us on The World Bird Sanctuary. It would be very unlikely to talk to one of the vets because they are all volunteers, but we could go up there and tour the hospital for a fee of $5 a person. Plus, there is an event called Owl Prowls on Friday and Saturday nights November through March with a fee of $7 a person if we bring 10 people or more. We could go do the hospital tour, get dinner together somewhere, and then come back for the owl prowl that night. We could have two sets of carpools, one group who wants to do the Owl Prowl and one who would leave after the hospital tour. I will update more when we find a date to go. We are planning for this to be next semester when it is warmer since it will be outdoors.
Kelsea Job (Vice-President) informed us that Dr. Houck would give a tour of the Equine Veterinary Clinic, which is located in Jackson. This would be a great opportunity for you to be exposed to what being an Equine veterinarian practice consists of and can go toward some of your shadowing hours in the Equine category. Don’t miss out on this opportunity. We decided as a club to take this trip next semester.
Brooke Sutton (Historian) spoke on behalf of the Agricultural department about the passing of Brittany Seabaugh. She was a member of the Pre-Vet club and will be missed dearly. There is going to be a scholarship created in her memory called The Brittney Seabaugh Memorial Scholarship. If you would want to donate to this, it would be greatly appreciated. You can give any donations to Fran or Dr. Weathers and they will get them where they need to go.
Lauren Bethel moved that we pass the motion that we have a bank account for the Pre-Vet club so our money would be in a safe place and so checks could be used to either pay for activities or if members needed to pay for something by a check then we would be able to cash them. This will also decrease the risk of something happening to the money since as of now it has to be in the care of the Treasurer. The bank we would be banking through would be First Missouri State Bank. There are no service fees, and no minimum balance we have to attain. The motion was moved and passed that we open the account and deposit our money there for safekeeping.
Last point that was covered was fundraising. Fran introduced the idea of Kiss A Cow. The way Kiss A Cow works is that we get the approval by teachers in the Ag department that will have a bucket with their name on it and students will place money into the bucket of the teacher they want to kiss a cow. The only way a teacher can decrease their chances is by putting money into other teachers’ buckets to offset their own accumulation of money. The teacher with the most money in their bucket at the end of our fundraiser will have to Kiss A Cow. We even talked about extending this fundraiser to teachers in other departments to encourage students to help with the fundraiser and see their teacher Kiss A Cow. This is still under development. If there are any questions or comments let Fran know via email.
If you have any more questions feel free to email me at [email protected] and I will get back to you as soon as I can.
