Officer Elections (Posted 3/31/13)
If you are interested in running for an officer position for the upcoming academic year, please read the club's constitution for the positions available as well as the responsibilities and qualifications for each position. Please e-mail Lauren at [email protected] and indicate what position/positions you would like to run for. You may also nominate someone for a position you think they would succeed well at. Remember, these elections will be taking place at our next meeting on April 17th at noon in Johnson Hall 226. Good luck everyone!
Mississippi Valley Therapeutic horsemanship (Posted 3/28/13)
On Saturday, April 20th, we will be volunteering at the Therapeutic Horsemanship. MVTH is an organization that helps special needs children with their motor skills by letting them ride horses. Each year they have their annual horse show and allow all of their students to participate in it. However, a lot of work needs to be done with preparations; this is where we come in. We will be helping clean out stalls, the barn, as well as clean equipment and anything else they need done in order to get their facilities pristine for the upcoming show. The Pre-Vet club did this last year and we all had a blast doing it. Show up expecting to work and get sweaty and dirty. We need to be there by 9 a.m. so we will be leaving Towers Circle no later than 8:30 (so please meet there around 8:15). If you would like to go, please e-mail Lauren at [email protected].
Exotic animal and marine Animal Webinar symposium (posted 2/7/13)
So this weekend you all have the opportunity to view a symposium that will be talking explicitly about the veterinary field and how it pertains to the world of exotic and marine animals. The times for it are from February 9th 11a.m.-7p.m. and February 10th, 11a.m.-5p.m. Alex Winkler will be hosting this event in Dempster Hall, Room 022. You do not have to stay for the whole time if you do not wish to and you can get there late if you are going on the Delta Vet Clinic Tour at 11 a.m. in Sikeston. Note taking is highly suggested. If you are interested in attending, please contact Alex at [email protected] by Friday evening, February 8th.
Parasitology Workshop at Skyview Animal Clinic (Posted 1/31/13)
Dr. Byrd at the Skyview Animal Clinic is offering us the opportunity to come in and do a workshop on parasitology. Parasitology is the study of parasites, their hosts, and the relationships between them. Dr. Byrd will be discussing with us the importance of this field as applied to the veterinarian position, how to identify parasites, how dogs and cats get infected, as well as the life cycle of parasites. Don't miss this amazing opportunity! This event will be on Thursday, February 7th, at 6 p.m. If you need a ride, meet at Towers Circle by 5:30. We will leave no later than 5:40. If you want to go, please e-mail Brooke at [email protected]. Also, let her know if you need a ride as well as if you could drive if needed.
Tour of Delta Vet Clinic (Posted 1/25/13)
On Saturday, February 9th, we will be going to Delta Vet Clinic in Sikeston, MO for a tour of their facilities. This is a great opportunity because you will get to see how different vet clinics are set up and operated compared to those at which you have shadowed at. Our tour time is scheduled for 11 a.m. so we will leave from Towers Circle by 10:15 a.m. to make certain we will get there on time. If you plan on going, please e-mail Brooke at [email protected] and let her know. Additionally, let her know if you could drive that day if needed.
Simply Swirled Fundraiser Night (Posted 1/18/13)
Monday, February 4th, we are having a fundraiser at Simply Swirled (located off of Mt. Auburn Rd). Our club will receive 10% of the profit that they make from 5-8 that night. We don't have to work the fundraiser so this is easy money for us. Encourage all of your friends to come and enjoy some delicious frozen yogurt!
Organization Fundraising at Martin Luther King Jr. Dinner
(Posted 1/7/13)
This is a fundraising opportunity open to all organizations at the University. It will occur on Wednesday, January 23rd, from 3-10 p.m. For each hour a volunteer works, $8 will go towards their organization. No catering experience is necessary but keep in mind that this is one of the most important events that the University hosts all year so volunteers are expected to act professionally. Volunteers will need to wear either a white or black dress shirt with black dress pants along with nonslip shoes. Volunteers will need to be available all seven hours unless dismissed earlier by the catering director, Cindy Hawke. Please contact Lauren Bethel by e-mail at [email protected] so a list can be compiled of those that can participate (I need to turn in a list by Friday, January 18th to turn into the Chartwells Catering Director). Keep in mind that when you commit to this, you MUST show up to volunteer. Remember that you will be representing the Pre-Veterinary Club. Set a good example.

2nd Annual National Student Day (Posted 9/18/12)
This is not a Pre-Vet sponsored event, however, the Southeast Bookstore is sponsoring volunteer trips out to both Safe Harbor Animal Shelter as well as the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri on Thursday, October 4th. You can volunteer at Safe Harbor anytime from 8 a.m.- 12 p.m. that day (you can work all 4 hours or two hours and catch a bus back a bus back to campus after 2 hours) or you can volunteer at the Humane Society from 1-5 p.m. that day (or you can do both!) They will provide buses to head out to Safe Harbor (one at 8a.m. and another at 10 a.m.) leaving from outside the bookstore. They will also have buses heading out to the Humane Society at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. that day. You can drive yourself too if you wish. Go to the Southeast bookstore to sign up by Wednesday, October 3rd so they can get an accurate number of how many students are going and how many are going to be riding buses. When you sign up you will also be given a free t-shirt (while supplies last). You MUST sign up with the bookstore so they have accurate numbers to give to the shelters. Additionally, you can submit your story of your volunteer experience for the chance to win scholarship money!
