Welcome back! I hope everyone has had a great start to the new school year! Today was our first Pre-Vet meeting of the year.
-To start us off, Dr. Weathers spoke about the Pearls of Production: Women in Agriculture program in Columbia, MO. This is a new program designed to provide a leadership and hands-on training opportunity for women involved in livestock production in Missouri. The program hopes to reach women who are playing larger roles and making key decisions in livestock production on the farm. The program is November 7-8, 2014. If you are interested in the workshop or would like more information, please contact Dr. Weathers.
Dr. Weathers also said that if you would like to help with the Department of Agriculture homecoming float to sign up in her office (Rhodes Hall, room 102).
Later in the year she will also be giving us more information about a workshop over bio-security on the farm that the department is planning.
-Following Dr. Weathers, we went around the room and introduced ourselves by stating our major, year, and favorite animal. An informational powerpoint over what we have done as a club in the past and what we plan to do this year was then shown. You can view the powerpoint here: /uploads/9/4/7/1/9471190/prevet_presentation-first_meeting.pptx.crdownload .
-Dr. Mueller, the Pre-Vet advisor and the faculty advisor for our club, spoke to us about the Pre-Veterinary Medicine Advisor's Workshop held by the Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine (Mizzou). The workshop will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2014. This is a very good opportunity to hear advice from some of Mizzou's vet students, learn what is needed for the application process and what is needed to be accepted, and tour the facility. If you are interested in going or would like more information, contact Dr. Mueller (Rhodes Hall, room 102). If you plan to go, Dr. Mueller needs your $5 payment (for food at the workshop) no later than October 4th.
-At the end of the meeting we talked about t-shirts and dues. We took a vote on the t-shirt color (teal with white lettering). The rough design is on the powerpoint above. Dues for the club alone are $10, but if you would like a shirt all you need to do is bring is $15 to the next meeting (covers both dues and t-shirt). Dues/t-shirt money is due at our next meeting.
-Our Vice President Cody Brazel and Treasurer Christine Byrd will be put on the Pre-Vet Club's bank account.
Our next meeting will be held on October 8th, 2014 at noon in Magill Hall, room 108. I look forward to seeing you all there!!
